Free est le 15e titre extrait de l'album Bad 25 de Michael Jackson. Une ballade sobre, simple et efficace où on ressens son envie de liberté dont Michael parle dans la chanson.Forger estime que c'est un titre plutôt « brut » et simple mais il reflète « l'esprit et la joie de Michael ». Ce morceau montre un Michael Jackson « dans son élément » et « faisant ce qu'il aimait faire ».
 
Le processus créatif de Michael pour écrire une chanson commençait généralement par le refrain et les accords en premier et la chanson allait être construite autour de ça lorsqu'il allait s'agir d'inclure les mélodies et les paroles des couplets. Ce morceau est clairement toujours un « work in progress », mais avec un refrain et des accords complets et finis.
