Al Capone est le 17e titre extrait de l'album Bad 25 de Michael Jackson. Al Capone est la démo du titre "Smooth Criminal". Pour la chanson, Michael utilise un personnage historique pour le thème de sa chanson.Bill Bottrell dit : "Voilà un parfait exemple de chanson dite "work in progress". Michael a souvent opéré de la sorte, il s'installe sur un projet de longs mois en ajustant le concept, modifiant les paroles ou la mélodie. La ligne de basse sur Al Capone a naturellement donné naissance à Smooth Criminal. Et la thématique du Gangster s'est au fil du temps moins concentré sur la figure historique qu'était Al Capone que sur le développement d'une situation et d'une histoire précise. On peut également clairement entendre Michael expérimenter ses célèbres vocalises Staccato, ce phrasé très rapide que l'on entendra plus tard dans la chanson finalisée.". Une instrumentale au synthétiseur pure avec une voix de Michael un peu plus grave.

Quand on écoute quelques premières démos de chansons, on peut instantanément dire de quelle chanson il s'agit. Celle-ci n'est PAS une de ces chansons. C'est un exemple de chanson qui montre une nette différence entre son stade précoce de développement et sa dernière version, finie et polie. Si ça n'était pas un fait connu que Smooth Criminal était développé depuis Al Capone, il serait difficile de savoir qu'elle avait ses origines dans le matériel basé sur l'écoute de ce premier enregistrement.
